Sandermann – Denmark

Sandermann takes a localised, ethical and zero-waste approach to contemporary women’s fashion by creating value out of discarded materials. Danish founder and designer Stine Sandermann is alumni of the MA Sustainable Textile Design programme at Chelsea College of Arts, UAL in London.

Based and made in Denmark, Sandermann has established a local supply chain for their knitwear, sourcing waste wool directly from hand selected farmers breeding sheep for land grazing and purposes other than their fibre, which meant this course wool was previously discarded or burnt.

After collection, the waste wool is spun into yarns on the island of Funen at one of Denmark’s last spinning mills, with production located in the small town of Ikast, known for its long textile history before the industry shifted to low-wage countries.
