Session one - Natural Fibres OCS, GOTS & CCS

There is increasing demand for certified products and materials. Consumers want higher standards from the products they buy, and manufacturers want to make sure they can verify sustainability practices in their supply chain. Learn how businesses in the fashion and textile industry can use standards and certifications to ensure traceability, cultivation and processing standards, and what is required to communicate these schemes with customers. 

 

Schemes covered will include Organic Content Standard (OCS), Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and Content Claim Standard (CCS).

Speakers

 

Sylvia Poel-Sietsema - Control Union Australia

 

Sylvia is General Manager of Sustainability standards and certifications at Control Union Australia. 

Control Union is a global certification body with boots on the ground in over 70 countries. It plays a major role in auditing and verification of certifications in the textile industry. Sylvia will talk about how certifications and standards work, and give insight into what’s involved in the verification process. 

 

Fiona Matsumoto - Global Organic Textile Standard, Japan

 

Fiona is the Regional Representative for GOTS Japan. GOTS is a textile processing standard for organic fibres, and includes both ecological and social criteria. In 2020, there were 10,388 GOTS certified facilities in 72 countries with more than 4 million workers covered under GOTS. Fiona will give insight into the key standard features and the conditions for the use of GOTS signs. 

 

Dane Ward - Afends 

 

Dane is General Manager at Afends. Afends is a streetwear brand committed to being environmentally and socio-economically sustainable in all facets of its company. Its philosophy is ‘Question Everything’ which is about inspiring people to educate themselves. Dane will share Afends sustainability journey and provide insights about the certifications and standards in place at the company.
